JORDAN 'BIG BOI' JOHNSON
Founding Instructor and Personal Trainer
A tall looming presence, Jordan’s imposing frame is immediately softened by his huge smile and friendly, easy going nature. And when you’re a 3rd degree black belt, the friendliness helps. Jordan begun his martial arts journey at age 7, back in Niagra Falls, Ontario, which progressed to boxing under the guidance of one of Canada’s top boxing coaches, William "Billy" 'The Kid' Irwin (who represented Canada at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain) and James Phelps.
A relocation for school landed Jordan at UNDRCARD where his skill, style, and personality will bring the fight out of you - regardless of your boxing experience. “I want people to remove their fear and build confidence. To know they can throw a punch, to know they have the stamina to work hard all day and then continue to enjoy the rest of the day instead of fade out. To keep moving, to remain strong and fighting, in order to live great every day.”
And if you are a complete boxing rookie, well, you can talk fashion and design with this part-time model and graffiti artist. Recently commissioned for various commercial and residential graffiti and art projects, Jordan literally leaves his mark wherever he goes. Balancing this artistic nature, with the rawness of fighting, reminds Jordan of a quote by his martial arts idol Bruce Lee. “I love his quote to ‘be like water’, to keep moving but ‘not be assertive but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves.’ ” So if you find yourself wanting to go with the flow, and box with Jordan, then, well, be like water, friend. Book a class with Jordan.
QUOTABLE "Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend". – Bruce Lee
